back to the old skool (for a night, at least)

I don't know what it is about old skool nights, but they kinda remind me of 'back to the 60's' or 'back to the 70's' nights your parents' went to years ago (and possibly still do). Is this the fate of old skool - in 10 or 15 years time, the old DJ's, who will be approaching (or in some cases will have passed) retirement, playing those old late 80's to early millenium acid thru rave thru dnb records that are completely knackered?

Nobody can foretell the future, but this old skool thing that's been going on now for a good few years isn't running out of steam - in fact it seems to be gaining momentum, as different periods in club history get assigned into the 'old skool' category as the years go on. 2 step UK Garage is now 'old skool'. Drum n bass from the late 90's is 'old skool'. How long until Grime is 'old skool'? A long time til that I think..

Anyway, I'm off out down the Concorde 2 in Brighton for some Old Skool shananigans - Ratpack, Slipmatt and the usual suspects. Think I'll leave the whistle at home, though..

..And what a night it was! DJ's were actually Ratpack, Top Buzz and Ellis Dee. The drum & bass room was firing as well.
